Old School Survivor
WC Edgar
.  .  .  .
WC Edgar personifies 'Outlaw Country' in modern times.  WC Edgar is rough Country with lots of balls,
patriotism, whiskey, Budweiser Beer and 'kiss my ass if you don't like my music!

I love everything about this guy. On his CD he states that he drives a 1970 Chevy Pickup and drinks Budweiser Beer. He dedicates the title track - Old School Survivor - to “Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Corporate Radio & everyone else that’s really screwed up Real Country Music as we know it”. I like the way he doesn’t look as though he’s going to be a hard-core traditional artist - but he is.I even like that he’s named his label Erection Records, and I like that he mentions Mel Street alongside Merle Haggard, Hank Sr. And Ernest Tubb as his biggest influences.  I like that he replies to an email requesting a review copy of his latest album with a simple “hell, yeah!” and I like his Paycheck-esque delivery.  If all that appeals to you as well, you’re probably going to want the latest album by BB Watson’s former steel player too. Ten self-written tracks that encapsulate everything that’s great about real country music from the twangin’ honky-tonk of the opener, to the stone country of the George Jones-ish killer, From Where I Sit, the Waylon influenced Modern Day Saviour, the modern day cowboy song, Rodeo Game, the two-steppin’ Gonna Do Some Drinkin’, and the” if you don’t like my music you can kiss my ass” of Old School Survivor. He’s a bit like Dale Watson with long hair.  Edgar rocks out a little too much for my liking on Man In The Backseat (about the death of Hank Williams) and Hicks & Chicks, but not so much you’d doubt for one moment that it’s country. If I had to pick favourites I’d probably go with the slower material like From Where I Sit, the wonderful Puppet On A String (nothing to do with Sandie Shaw), and the custody battle of Dallas.  Highly recommended for any old school survivors but I would have liked a few more than ten tracks. If you missed his debut, Alcohol Of Fame, a couple of years ago, and you hear this, I can guarantee you’ll be hunting that down as well. Duncan Warwick

W.C. EDGAR BIO & ALBUM Profile:

Alcohol of Fame...
In a not so perfect world filled with a facade of pretty faced boy bands with absolutely
no substance, and lame reality
"Idol" shows filled with bad karaoke shower  singers, stands a guy at six foot three who's paid his dues in Country Music.

WC Edgar has ridden a lot of roads in both rickety vans and million-dollar tour buses since his start in country music
playing steel guitar for the likes of Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Marty Haggard, Ty England, Jeff Carson, Dale Watson,
Leroy Van Dyke, Johnny Lee as well as The Country Music USA Show at Nashville's once famed Opryland USA.

But now, at last, it's his turn.  He's the new Country Music Artist and has taken the time to make an album of his own
that includes his buddy Daryle Singletary helping him out on  the last line of a  WC Edgar ballad titled
"Mirrors Don't Lie".  Remarkably, Edgar wrote every song on the album without the aid of a single co-writer.
These aren't just good songs, they're classic ones.  He's mastered the sounds and idioms of Country Music
in it's rhinestone heyday.

Alcohol of Fame is a beacon of traditional Country Music, one that sparkles with fiddles, steel guitars and tales
of drinking too much and loving too hard.  It's one of the most exciting collections to come down the pike in years.

Alcohol of Fame is more than an album, It's an event.  Prepare to be astounded!

WC Edgar is a good ol' boy with that rapidly recognized Texas-sized- talent. His Texas Rain is a special treat.

W.C. Edgar, "Mirrors Don't Lie" The title immediately makes me think of Lefty Frizzell's
"I Never Go Around Mirrors," one of the saddest self-deprecating country songs of the last half-century.
The smooth-voiced Edgar's song has a hefty dose of that classic Lefty-era golden glory about it - a sound
so barroom-sad you'll want to start drinking immediately, even first thing in the morning.

Yesterday & Today Records (Australia)
W.C. Edgar – “Alcohol of Fame”  Every now and again an independent cd comes along which is so good you wonder how the
artist isn’t a star of the highest proportion. Vocally W C has a voice which reminds of Merle Haggard’s son, Marty and that is
very good. He is also a steel guitarist who toured with the likes of Alan Jackson, surprisingly the aforementioned Marty Haggard….
could this be a ruse and it is in fact Marty doing the vocals????? Well that is my conspiracy theory of the month, even if I would be
wrong.  He is an exceptional writer and has written all 12 songs without a collaborator. “You Never Had Forever In Mind” is a great
a-grade lyric about the one sided end of a relationship. “Alcohol of Fame”, is different to the song of a few years ago but every bit as good. “Mirrors Don’t Lie” (not the Gene Watson song) features the equally fine voiced Darryl Singletary. Just to prove he could write
3 songs with the same title as a well known song he does an excellent “Close Up the Honky Tonks”, a full bore honky tonk number.
Several tracks have a rodeo theme and “Vegas” couples the rodeo theme with the break up of a relationship. “Barrels and Bottles” is
an upbeat number about a guy who goes to watch his girl in the barrel races whilst he himself prefers the bottles. “Texas Rain” is
another breakup song with a great conversational style and a few nice organ runs. You could never accuse W C of having great romantic
success. One or two tracks have a Charlie Daniels style “if it ain’t American..it ain’t” style lyric but the vocals are so good you will
overlook this. Knock me down with a feather….WC is touring Australia and will be playing Sydney in June and Melbourne end of May.
Great album.

2008 Release. Edgar is probably one of the best kept secrets as far country vocals and musical abilities are concerned and has played
steel guitar for a host of country notables including,ALAN JACKSON, TIM McGRAW, DALE WATSON, LEROY VAN DYKE to name
just a few. This is a real honkytonker with lots of fiddles, steel guitar, accoustic guitar, piano, bass & drums. The downbeat has lots of
bottom on the bass that'll set your toes to tappin'. Edgar's vocals are in the tradition of RANDY TRAVIS with shades of PAYCHECK & HAGGARD on the ballads and a touch of CHARLIE DANIELS on the uptempos. All songs are EDGAR originals and better than
most of 'em. 14 tracks with intro by DARYLE SINLETARY. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

2011 HonkyTonkJunkie Music Awards (The Junkies)

In keeping with tradition I am naming the my picks for who I think should have won the Country Music Association (CMA) awards, the anti-CMA’s if you will, on the day after the awards were handed out.  As usual, I have made up my own rules so don’t worry if something on here is more than a year old, they’re based on things I’ve discovered over the past year.  With that, I give you The Junkies.

Album:  W.C. Edgar Old School Survivor.  With a voice reminiscent of Johnny Paycheck and a Waylon Jennings/George Jones vibe, how can you go wrong?  W.C. Edgar is a steel guitar player who has played with everyone from Dale Watson to Tim McGraw who is now going it on his own.  This is one of those records I can’t get enough of and I’m still playing cuts from it as well as from his first album Alcohol of Fame.

Thanks to HonkyTonkJunkie.com for the great writeup!

On Tuesday evening October 4th WC Edgar was a special guest on MSNBC's 'THE ED SCHULTZ SHOW'
http://uawcap.youritproz.com/?p=1748

(From WC)
This appearance on the Ed Show on MSNBC happened very quickly. I got the call to do the show about noon one day and the Show happened that evening at about 9:30. They were unable to get a satellite truck to me quick enough so  I had to run to the local NBC affiliate in Wichita and they had me in a seldom used area of the studio.  The problem was that the camera was on my right side and the monitor I was using was way to my left.  To make matters worse, there was at least a 10-15 second delay from the time the others spoke in my ear piece until you could see their mouths move on the monitor way to my left side.  Thats the reason I looked so unprofessional at first always looking to my left.  I got it straight after a few minutes and looked straight at the camera and had a nice time with Ed.  Thanks to my friend Gregg Cockrell from MSNBC for calling on me to do the show because it was a blast.

New CD Review from Yesterday & Today Records Australia
Great second album which is right up there with his wonderful debut, ‘Alcohol of Fame’. All songs are by W C and he has very traditional values. “Old School Survivor” is an anti-Nashville rant which is right up there with some of the best of our hero Dale Watson. (I do wonder when someone is going to do an anti-Nashville song called “Shooting Fish in a Barrel!). You have to admire WC’s dedication…”Old School Survivor” is dedicated to “Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Corporate Radio and everyone else that’s really screwed up Real Country Music as we know it.” W C’s voice reminds me of Marty Haggard, which is a compliment. It is that characteristic drop a la Lefty at the end of the line which is something to give goosebumps. He tackles the themes of honky tonk music as good as anyone out there and also does a top rodeo song, appropriately called “Rodeo Game”, about the special breed of “hombre” who competes. “Dallas” is a real tear jerker, a great play on words about the custody of his son. The Cosmic Cowboy, sentimental old fluff that he is has even rated it up there with the David Oxford classic “Don’t Tell the Babies”, the highest accolade you can get. All I can say is
 God Bless W C Edgar!!
